Colorado Auto Collisions
Every day, drivers across Colorado face risks on the road—risks that can quickly turn routine commutes into life-altering events. With an average of over 110,000 motor vehicle crashes reported annually, Colorado roads have become increasingly hazardous, especially in urban centers like Denver, Aurora, and Colorado Springs. In 2023 alone, the state recorded more than 630 traffic fatalities, marking a troubling rise in deadly collisions.
The aftermath of a car crash can feel overwhelming. Injured victims may find themselves juggling medical treatments, lost income, damaged vehicles, and the emotional weight of trauma. For many, the path to recovery feels uncertain—especially when insurance companies push for quick settlements that don’t reflect the full scope of their suffering.
A significant portion of crashes in Colorado stem from preventable behaviors. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), nearly 70% of traffic deaths in 2023 involved unsafe driving behaviors, such as:
- Distracted driving, often involving texting or social media use.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or other substances.
- Speeding, which continues to be a factor in nearly one-third of fatal crashes.
- Aggressive or reckless driving, including illegal passing and tailgating.
Beyond human error, Colorado’s geography adds unique challenges. The state’s mountain passes, sudden weather shifts, and icy winter roads contribute to a higher rate of multi-vehicle pileups and run-off-road crashes, especially along routes like US 285, I-70, and Highway 6. Rural areas are not immune either—crashes in less populated regions often result in longer EMS response times, increasing the risk of severe outcomes.
Complicating matters further, hit-and-run incidents and high-speed chases are on the rise in metro areas, putting innocent motorists in harm’s way. As law enforcement continues to crack down on auto theft and reckless driving, victims often find themselves caught in dangerous, unpredictable situations.
