Colorado Traffic Collisions
Each year, Colorado experiences over 120,000 motor vehicle collisions, resulting in nearly 20,000 reported injuries. Densely populated areas like Denver and Jefferson County see a particularly high number of crashes due to heavy traffic volumes, complex intersections, and increasingly distracted drivers. At Smith & Weidinger, our experienced Denver car accident attorneys are here to help victims and their families recover physically, emotionally, and financially after a serious crash.
Several recurring factors contribute to Colorado’s high rate of traffic accidents. Distracted driving remains one of the most common causes of collisions, with drivers often texting, adjusting GPS devices, or engaging in other activities that take their focus off the road. Even a momentary distraction can result in devastating consequences.
Failure to yield the right of way is another frequent cause of accidents, particularly at busy intersections like South Sheridan Boulevard and West Vassar Avenue. Drivers who disregard traffic signs or misjudge gaps in traffic increase the risk of serious collisions.
Speeding is a factor in many severe accidents. Driving above the speed limit reduces a driver’s reaction time and increases the force of impact in a crash. Speed-related accidents often lead to more serious injuries, including head trauma, fractures, and internal injuries.
Low visibility and nighttime driving conditions also play a major role in many accidents across Denver. Poor lighting makes it harder to see hazards in time to react, increasing the likelihood of collisions during evening and early morning hours.
Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol continues to be a serious concern in Colorado. Despite widespread public awareness efforts, impaired drivers still pose a threat to everyone on the road. Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can significantly impair judgment and reaction time, making crashes more likely and more severe.
