Colorado Pedestrian Accidents
Walking should be one of the safest and simplest ways to get around. But across Colorado, pedestrians are facing increasing dangers on roads that are becoming more congested and less predictable. Each year, thousands of pedestrian-involved accidents occur statewide — and in 2022 alone, Colorado recorded a troubling 111 pedestrian fatalities, reflecting a steady rise in deadly incidents.
Busy urban centers like Denver, Aurora, and Colorado Springs have become especially hazardous for those on foot. As traffic volumes grow and driver distractions increase, simply crossing the street can turn into a life-threatening event.
The aftermath of a pedestrian accident can be devastating. Injured individuals often face lengthy hospital stays, costly rehabilitation, and an inability to return to work. All too often, insurance companies rush to offer quick payouts that fall far short of covering the true impact of the injuries, leaving victims without the support they need to rebuild their lives.
Many of these tragic accidents are entirely preventable. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 90% of crashes stem from driver error. In Colorado, some of the leading causes of pedestrian collisions include:
- Distracted Driving
- Speeding in Residential or Urban Areas
- Failure to Yield at Crosswalks
- Driving Under the Influence
In addition, hit-and-run incidents involving pedestrians have become disturbingly common. While law enforcement continues working to improve safety and accountability on Colorado roads, far too many people are left to deal with the life-altering consequences of a driver’s negligence.
