Colorado Car Crashes

Denver is a city on the move, with more residents choosing bicycles for daily transportation, exercise, and recreation. But as bike traffic increases alongside congested roads and distracted drivers, the number of injury-related bicycle crashes has also risen sharply. From busy streets like Colfax Avenue and South Broadway to neighborhood intersections and park trails, cyclists face real risks every day.

While bike accidents can happen in many ways, most are caused by preventable driver behavior. Failing to yield at intersections, making unsafe turns, drifting into bike lanes, and distracted driving are all common causes. Unfortunately, it’s often the cyclist who suffers the most serious consequences.

State data shows that hundreds of bicyclists are injured on Colorado roads each year, with a large portion of those incidents occurring in the Denver metro area. Cyclists hit by cars may sustain traumatic brain injuries, fractures, spinal damage, or other lasting harm. Beyond the physical toll, victims often face financial strain from medical bills, missed work, and long recovery periods.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirms that driver error is a leading factor in most traffic crashes, including those involving cyclists. One careless moment behind the wheel can change a rider’s life forever.
