Lakewood, CO — Fatal Accident Takes One Life on S Wadsworth Blvd

Lakewood, CO (May 5, 2025) –  A deadly multi-vehicle collision in Lakewood on Friday night has left one person dead and another with minor injuries. The crash occurred on May 2, around 8:30 p.m., at the intersection of South Wadsworth Boulevard and West Mansfield Parkway.

According to West Metro Fire Rescue, first responders performed CPR on the individual who suffered the most severe injuries. The person was transported to a nearby hospital but sadly did not survive. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, pending notification of next of kin.

Emergency crews quickly extinguished a car that caught fire in the crash. While one other person sustained minor injuries, those in the two additional vehicles involved were unharmed. The Lakewood Police Department has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased individual.

Colorado Car Accidents

Car accidents remain a tragic and all-too-common cause of death in Colorado, especially in growing urban areas like Lakewood. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), traffic fatalities have continued to rise in recent years, with many occurring on busy commuter routes throughout Jefferson County.

Losing a loved one in a car crash is a devastating experience that no family should have to face alone. If your family is dealing with the sudden loss of someone you love due to another driver’s negligence, it’s important to understand your legal options. A skilled Lakewood wrongful death attorney can help you pursue justice and compensation for funeral expenses, medical costs, lost future income, and emotional suffering.

Understanding how these tragic crashes occur can help prevent future loss of life and support your case in court. Common causes of deadly collisions in the Lakewood area include:

Failure to Yield: Many fatal crashes occur when drivers make left turns at intersections without yielding the right of way or merge without checking blind spots. These errors often result in head-on or T-bone collisions.

Distracted Driving: Whether texting, eating, or using a GPS, distracted drivers pose a serious risk to everyone on the road. Even a brief moment of inattention can lead to catastrophic outcomes.

Speeding: Excessive speed dramatically increases the severity of any crash. On major roads like Colfax Avenue, Kipling Street, and Wadsworth Boulevard, speeding often plays a role in fatal collisions.

Driving Under the Influence: Alcohol or drug impairment is a leading cause of deadly car accidents in Colorado. Drunk or high drivers reduce their ability to respond to changing traffic conditions and put countless lives in danger.

Unsafe Road Conditions: Hazardous roadways, such as those with poor lighting, potholes, or inadequate signage, can also contribute to fatal crashes, particularly at night or during storms.

If your loved one was killed in a car accident, you may have the right to file a wrongful death claim. While no amount of compensation can bring someone back, a legal claim can ease the financial burden and help your family find some measure of justice. A compassionate Lakewood wrongful death lawyer will gather evidence, work with crash investigators, and protect your rights through every step of the legal process.
