Aurora, CO - One Seriously Hurt in Rollover Crash on I-70 near Airport Rd

Aurora, CO (April 19, 2025) – Aurora police were sent to the scene of a two-car accident on the morning of April 18. Just before 7:15 a.m., the wreck occurred on Interstate 70 near Airport Boulevard. Two vehicles were involved in the collision, causing one to roll over and eject the driver.

Paramedics transported the injured driver to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The second driver sustained minor injuries, according to reports. Police in Aurora are working to determine the cause of the accident. All westbound lanes of the interstate were closed at Airport Boulevard, with traffic diverted to Peña Boulevard. Local drivers were told to expect delays if traveling through the area.

We hope for the full and rapid recovery of the injured victims.

Colorado Auto Collisions

Car accidents are a frequent and often devastating occurrence in Colorado, with the state seeing over 100,000 crashes annually. High-traffic areas such as Denver, Aurora, and Colorado Springs are particularly prone to accidents, and in one recent year, more than 3,800 people were seriously injured, while over 600 tragically lost their lives in crashes across the state.

For those involved in accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming. In addition to the physical pain of injuries, victims often face mounting medical bills, lost wages, vehicle repairs, and emotional distress. These challenges can make it incredibly difficult to move forward without the right support.

A significant portion of these accidents is due to driver negligence, which remains the primary cause of collisions both in Colorado and across the country. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 93% of accidents are caused by human error. Common forms of negligence in Colorado include distracted driving (such as texting while driving), driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, speeding, and fatigue behind the wheel.

Colorado’s distinct geography and weather patterns also contribute to the risks on the road. The state’s mountain roads, snowy conditions, and icy highways in winter create additional hazards, particularly on major routes like I-25 and I-70. There’s also a troubling rise in accidents involving stolen vehicles and high-speed chases, putting even more innocent drivers at risk.
