Glendale, CO – Five Hurt in Crash on Leetsdale Dr
Written by Bradley Smith
Glendale, CO (June 3, 2025) — On Saturday night, May 31, a violent head-on crash occurred and multiple hospitalizations were needed as a result after an Aurora man allegedly stole a pickup truck and led officers on a chase through Denver and Glendale, authorities informed.
Michael Guadalupe Freyta, 26, is now facing a series of felony charges, including vehicular assault, motor vehicle theft, and eluding law enforcement, as well as a misdemeanor DUI. The Aurora Police Department confirmed that five individuals were hospitalized following the crash — one with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and four others with minor wounds.
The incident began around 5:45 p.m. when officers spotted a 2000 Dodge Ram near East Mississippi Avenue and South Chambers Road. After verifying the vehicle had been reported stolen, police attempted a traffic stop at South Potomac Street. Freyta reportedly refused to comply and fled, prompting a pursuit westward through Denver and into Glendale.
The chase ended near South Leetsdale Drive and South Cherry Street, where the suspect allegedly collided head-on with a vehicle carrying four passengers. All were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
After receiving medical care himself, Freyta was taken into custody and booked into jail. In addition to the new charges, Aurora Police noted that Freyta has a criminal history involving auto theft, identity theft, fraud, and forgery. He is also accused of failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements tied to a previous conviction in Adams County involving a minor.
While Aurora authorities continue to investigate the theft and pursuit, the Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit has taken the lead on examining the details of the crash.
We hope those hurt in this wreck make a rapid recovery.
Colorado Car Accidents
Aurora’s roadways—like East Colfax Avenue, South Parker Road, and Interstate 225—see thousands of drivers daily. With increasing traffic volumes and a growing population, the risk of being injured in a car accident is a very real concern for Aurora residents. In fact, Aurora has become one of the most accident-prone cities in the Denver metro area, with many crashes resulting in serious, life-altering injuries.
If you’ve been injured in a car accident in Aurora, it’s crucial to understand the factors that may impact your case and how to protect your rights. Here are a few key issues that can affect injury claims:
Negligent Driving
The majority of car wrecks are caused by preventable behaviors such as distracted driving, tailgating, speeding, or failure to yield. Proving fault often requires gathering solid evidence—accident reports, dashcam footage, witness accounts, and expert reconstructions—to demonstrate the other party’s negligence.
Insurance Complications
Even when fault is clear, insurance companies may attempt to minimize your compensation or delay your claim. Having an experienced car accident attorney in Aurora can help level the playing field, ensuring that you receive fair compensation for your injuries, property damage, and financial losses.
Shared Responsibility and Complex Crashes
Some Aurora car accidents involve multiple vehicles, rideshare services, or commercial trucks. These situations require careful legal analysis to determine liability and pursue every available avenue for compensation.
Extent of Injuries
Injuries from vehicle crashes can include concussions, broken bones, internal trauma, or long-term disabilities like spinal cord damage. Detailed medical documentation and expert testimony are often needed to fully account for both short-term and long-term costs of your injury.
Hazardous Conditions
Inclement weather, poor road design, or construction zones along major routes like I-70 or Quincy Avenue can contribute to crashes. In such cases, third-party liability may come into play—including government entities or contractors responsible for road safety.
