Aurora, CO – Bicyclist Killed After Being Hit by Van on S Kittredge Way
Written by Bradley Smith
Aurora, CO (October 9, 2025) – A man died on Wednesday morning, October 8, after a van struck him from behind while he rode his bicycle in Southeast Aurora.
The deadly collision happened just before 7:00 a.m. in the 2200 block of South Kittredge Way, near Horseshoe Park. The bicyclist was traveling southbound when the van slammed into him with devastating force, throwing him onto the roadway. With no bike lanes along this stretch, the victim had little room to escape the impact.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and found the man critically injured. Paramedics fought to stabilize him before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, he died from the severity of his injuries. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release his identity once they notify his family.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said drugs and alcohol did not appear to play a role in the crash. The Aurora Police Traffic Section is leading the investigation and urges anyone with information to contact them immediately.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
Fatal Bicycle Accidents in Colorado
Colorado’s growing cycling community faces increasing danger on roads that often lack dedicated infrastructure. Streets like South Kittredge Way present a high risk to cyclists, especially during early morning commutes when visibility is limited and traffic is heavy. In many cases, one moment of driver inattention can have deadly consequences.
Bicyclists are among the most vulnerable people on the road. Without the protection of a vehicle, even a low-speed crash can cause catastrophic injuries such as traumatic brain damage, internal bleeding, or fatal head trauma.
When a collision is fatal, families are left grieving and struggling with unexpected expenses and the sudden loss of support. If the crash was caused by someone else’s negligence, surviving family members may seek justice through a wrongful death claim. Compensation can cover:
- Medical expenses for emergency care provided before death.
- Funeral and burial costs to honor their loved one.
- Lost income and financial support that the victim would have provided.
- Loss of companionship and emotional support for surviving family members.
- Pain and suffering caused by the sudden, wrongful death.
Navigating a wrongful death claim is complex and emotionally draining. A brave wrongful death lawyer can investigate the crash, prove liability, and pursue the justice and compensation your family deserves.
