Aurora, CO — One Killed, One Injured in Crash Near Montview Blvd

Aurora, CO (April 16, 2025) – A 21-year-old man lost his life and a woman was seriously injured in a violent vehicle crash early Sunday morning near the Denver-Aurora city line.

The incident happened around 3:47 a.m. on April 13 at the intersection of Central Park Boulevard and Montview Boulevard. According to the Aurora Police Department, a 20-year-old woman was driving when she ran a red light at the intersection. Investigators say her vehicle veered off the left side of the road, spun out of control, and crashed head-on into a traffic control signal box.

The impact caused significant damage and temporarily knocked out power to the traffic signals at the intersection. Witnesses nearby stopped and pulled both the driver and her male passenger from the wrecked vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews transported the woman to an area hospital with serious injuries. Her current condition has not been made public. Police believe that both speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash, though they are still awaiting results from a blood test to confirm intoxication levels. No charges have been announced at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and hope the injured woman makes a full recovery.

Car Accidents in Colorado

In Colorado, car crashes continue to be a leading cause of death among young adults. In recent years, speeding and impaired driving have contributed to a rising number of fatal incidents on state roadways. Aurora and Denver, being major urban centers, often see a high number of single-vehicle crashes during overnight hours.

Here are several critical factors often seen in similar accidents:

  • Red Light Violations: Running red lights is a common cause of serious collisions, especially during early morning hours when visibility is low and intersections are less crowded. These incidents often lead to high-speed crashes with fixed objects or other vehicles.
  • Alcohol-Related Crashes: Alcohol impairs decision-making, reaction time, and motor skills. Drivers under the influence are significantly more likely to speed, lose control, or misjudge intersections. In Colorado, DUI-related accidents account for a large percentage of overnight crashes.
  • Speed and Loss of Control: Speeding increases the chance of losing control, especially when road conditions or lighting are poor. Even without other vehicles involved, high speeds can lead to deadly consequences when a car veers off the road.
  • Bystander Response: Quick action by witnesses can save lives in the aftermath of a crash. In this case, nearby drivers stepped in to help the victims before emergency crews arrived. While not always possible, this kind of response can sometimes be the difference between life and death.
