Denver, CO (October 6, 2025) – A deadly hit-and-run crash on Monday, October 6, claimed the life of a pedestrian on East Colfax Avenue, according to Denver Police.
The accident occurred just after midnight near the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Trenton Street. Investigators said the victim was crossing East Colfax from north to south when a dark-colored SUV struck them. The SUV fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the pedestrian fatally injured.
Authorities believe the suspect vehicle has minor to moderate damage on the front passenger-side bumper. Police have not yet released the identity of the victim or additional details about the driver.
Denver Police are actively investigating and continue to search for the hit-and-run vehicle. They encourage anyone with information to contact local authorities.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this heartbreaking time.
Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in Denver
Hit-and-run crashes are among the most devastating and frustrating types of accidents in Colorado. When a driver leaves the scene without helping the victim, families are left with grief, unanswered questions, and serious financial burdens. Pedestrian accidents in Denver often result in catastrophic injuries or death because pedestrians have no protection against a moving vehicle.
Common causes of pedestrian accidents include:
- Distracted driving – Drivers who look at their phones or navigation systems may not see pedestrians in crosswalks.
- Speeding – Higher speeds reduce reaction time and increase the severity of collisions.
- Driving under the influence – Alcohol and drugs remain leading contributors to hit-and-run accidents.
- Failure to yield – Many crashes occur when drivers fail to stop for pedestrians at intersections or marked crossings.
Families who lose loved ones in hit-and-run crashes may have the right to pursue compensation through a wrongful death claim. Damages can cover funeral expenses, lost financial support, medical bills, and the emotional pain of losing a family member.
Because these cases often involve unidentified drivers, legal guidance becomes especially important. An experienced wrongful death attorney in Denver can work with investigators, gather evidence, and pursue every possible avenue for justice. In some cases, victims’ families may recover compensation through their own uninsured motorist coverage if the at-fault driver cannot be located.
