Colorado Car Accidents

Car crashes remain a serious and ongoing issue in Colorado—especially in urban centers like Denver, where high traffic volume and rapid growth have increased the likelihood of serious collisions. Each year, the state records over 100,000 motor vehicle accidents, with Denver consistently ranking among the areas with the most frequent and severe incidents.

In just one recent year, more than 3,800 people suffered serious injuries in Colorado crashes, and over 600 lives were tragically lost. For survivors and their families, the aftermath of a crash can be life-altering—bringing with it steep medical bills, missed work, damaged property, and deep emotional stress.

Many of these accidents stem from preventable causes. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) attributes over 90% of traffic crashes nationwide to human error. Here in Colorado, the most common forms of negligence include texting while driving, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, and driving while overtired or distracted.

Local geography and weather conditions also pose major challenges. Denver drivers often face slick roads, sudden snowstorms, and hazardous mountain passes. High-traffic corridors like I-25 and I-70 are frequent sites of multi-vehicle crashes, especially during peak commuting hours or inclement weather. Adding to the risk, incidents involving stolen vehicles and high-speed chases have become more common in recent years.
