Denver, CO – Driver Killed After Car and RTD Bus Crash on I-70 at Holly St
Written by Bradley Smith
Denver, CO (September 15, 2025) – A deadly crash shut down westbound Interstate 70 on Monday morning, September 15, after a car and an RTD bus collided near Holly Street. The Denver Police Department confirmed that one person died in the collision, which occurred around 6:25 a.m.
Investigators said the Route 15L bus was traveling westbound on I-70 when it was rear-ended by a car. First responders arrived quickly and found the driver of the car critically injured. Tragically, that driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The RTD bus driver did not suffer any injuries, and officials confirmed that no passengers were on board at the time since the bus was not in service.
The crash caused significant disruption to morning traffic. Westbound I-70 remained closed at Holly Street for several hours while officers investigated and diverted traffic onto East 45th North Drive toward Colorado Boulevard.
The closure caused heavy delays stretching back to South Peoria Street and Interstate 225. Police reopened the interstate at around 9:02 a.m.
The Denver Police Department continues to investigate the cause of this tragic crash.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the driver who lost their life.
Bus Accidents in Denver
Crashes involving large commercial vehicles, such as RTD buses, often lead to devastating outcomes. While buses are built to withstand impact, smaller passenger vehicles offer little protection in collisions.
Sadly, as seen in this case, those in passenger vehicles face the greatest risk of severe injury or death.
When a crash results in a fatality, surviving family members may have the right to file a claim. With the help of a skilled Denver wrongful death lawyer, families can pursue justice and financial support for the many hardships that follow a tragic loss.
Compensation in wrongful death cases may include:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical costs leading up to the loss of life
- Lost wages and financial support the victim would have provided
- Emotional suffering and loss of companionship
- Pain and suffering endured by the deceased before passing
Bus-related accidents also raise complex legal issues. Claims may involve multiple parties, including government agencies, bus operators, and insurance companies.
Having a skilled attorney ensures that grieving families have someone to guide them through the process, protect their rights, and hold the responsible party accountable.
