Colorado Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycling gives Colorado riders a sense of freedom and connection to the open road—but tragically, it also comes with serious risks. Every year, fatal motorcycle crashes take the lives of too many Coloradans, leaving behind grieving families and communities searching for answers. In recent years, the Denver metro area and other parts of the state have seen an alarming increase in deadly motorcycle collisions, even as awareness campaigns and safety programs aim to reduce them.

The aftermath of a fatal motorcycle crash is devastating. Families not only face profound emotional loss but also unexpected challenges such as funeral costs, medical bills, and the loss of financial support. While no amount of compensation can erase the pain, holding the responsible party accountable can provide a measure of justice and critical financial relief.

Most fatal motorcycle accidents in Colorado are preventable. Negligent drivers—whether distracted, impaired, or driving aggressively—are often to blame. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), human error is a factor in over 90% of fatal crashes nationwide. In Colorado, speeding, alcohol or drug impairment, unsafe lane changes, and drivers failing to yield to motorcycles are leading causes of deadly collisions.

Motorcyclists also face unique dangers on Colorado’s roads. Limited visibility to other drivers, hazardous weather conditions, and uneven or poorly maintained road surfaces increase the risk of severe crashes. Many fatalities occur at intersections, where drivers fail to see or properly judge the speed of an oncoming motorcycle.
