Denver, CO – Pedestrian Killed in Crash at W 17th Ave & N Sheridan Blvd
Written by Bradley Smith
Denver, CO (September 21, 2025) – A pedestrian lost their life after being struck by a vehicle near Sloan’s Lake on Saturday, September 19.
The crash happened shortly before 10:45 p.m. at the intersection of West 17th Avenue and North Sheridan Boulevard. Police confirmed the impact left the pedestrian with critical injuries, and despite emergency efforts, the victim died at the scene.
At first, investigators believed the driver had left the scene. By Sunday, police corrected that statement and confirmed the driver did stay and cooperated with authorities.
Officers said no other victims were involved. The driver’s role in the crash remains under review, and investigators continue to look closely at the circumstances that caused this fatal collision.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased pedestrian. Our hearts are also with the community members affected by this tragedy.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Colorado
Pedestrian accidents are some of the most severe collisions on Colorado roads. Unlike drivers in vehicles, pedestrians have no protection at the moment of impact. A single crash can leave victims with catastrophic injuries such as brain trauma, spinal cord damage, broken bones, or even death.
In Denver, busy areas like Sloan’s Lake and intersections such as West 17th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard see heavy traffic and constant foot activity. These conditions create an increased risk for devastating crashes when drivers lose focus, fail to yield, or travel at unsafe speeds.
Pedestrian crashes often result from:
- Distracted driving, including texting or phone use
- Drivers failing to yield in crosswalks
- Impaired driving from alcohol or drugs
- Excessive speed in crowded areas
- Poor visibility at night or in bad weather
When these tragic crashes occur, surviving families may be entitled to compensation through a wrongful death claim. These claims can provide financial support for funeral expenses, lost income, emotional suffering, and other damages. But insurance companies often try to minimize payouts, leaving families struggling during their most difficult time.
