Colorado Car Crashes

Car accidents are a harsh reality on Denver’s busy streets, happening far more frequently than many residents might expect. With over 100,000 crashes reported annually across Colorado, the Denver metro area—including neighborhoods like Capitol Hill, Montbello, and Five Points—consistently ranks among the most collision-prone parts of the state.

Injuries from these crashes can be life-altering. From whiplash and broken bones to traumatic brain injuries and long-term disability, victims often find themselves overwhelmed by medical bills, lost income, and emotional distress. Even a relatively “minor” accident can set off a chain reaction of financial and physical hardship.

The leading cause of injury crashes in Denver is driver negligence—whether it’s distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, or simply failing to yield. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 9 in 10 crashes involve human error. In urban areas like Denver, distractions like cell phones, rideshare traffic, and pedestrian-heavy zones increase the likelihood of accidents every day.

Denver’s unique combination of urban congestion and unpredictable weather doesn’t help. Snowstorms, icy roads, and limited visibility during winter months lead to spikes in crashes, especially on major routes like I-25, Colfax Avenue, and Speer Boulevard. Increasingly, incidents involving stolen vehicles and reckless driving have added to the city’s traffic risks.
