Colorado Car Accidents
Car accidents are an unfortunate reality on Colorado’s roads, happening far more often than many realize. Each year, the state records more than 100,000 crashes. Urban centers such as Denver, Aurora, and Colorado Springs see the greatest concentration of collisions, but serious wrecks occur in every part of the state. In a single recent year, thousands of Coloradans suffered severe injuries, and more than 600 lives were lost in traffic accidents.
The impact of these crashes is profound. Beyond the immediate physical injuries, victims are often left grappling with medical expenses, time away from work, emotional trauma, and the stress of repairing or replacing their vehicles. For many families, the aftermath can feel overwhelming.
Most of these collisions can be traced back to driver negligence. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that human error plays a role in over 90% of crashes nationwide, and Colorado is no exception. Common causes include distracted driving—particularly from smartphones—drunk or drug-impaired driving, speeding, and fatigue behind the wheel.
Colorado’s unique terrain and climate add additional hazards. Icy winter roads, sudden weather changes in the mountains, and heavy traffic along I-25 and I-70 often contribute to dangerous conditions. In recent years, law enforcement has also reported a rise in accidents tied to stolen vehicles and reckless high-speed pursuits.
