Colorado Car Crashes

Car accidents are an everyday reality in Denver, where busy roads, fast-paced traffic, and growing populations contribute to thousands of crashes each year. Colorado sees over 100,000 collisions annually, and Denver ranks among the top cities for both frequency and severity of these incidents. In a recent year, more than 3,800 people across the state suffered serious injuries in motor vehicle crashes, and over 600 lives were lost.

For those involved in a crash, the aftermath can feel overwhelming. Victims often face a long list of challenges: emergency room visits, mounting medical bills, lost time from work, and the lasting impact of physical pain and emotional distress. Even a seemingly minor collision can turn a person’s life upside down.

Most car accidents in Denver are caused by preventable behaviors—actions that stem from driver negligence. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that more than 90% of traffic accidents involve some form of human error. In Denver, that often means distracted driving (especially texting behind the wheel), impaired driving due to alcohol or drugs, speeding, and driving while overly tired or aggressive.

Denver’s weather and terrain don’t make things easier. Winter storms, black ice, and sudden changes in road conditions can catch even cautious drivers off guard, especially on major corridors like I-25, Colfax Avenue, or Federal Boulevard. In recent years, law enforcement has also reported a rise in crashes involving stolen vehicles and high-speed chases, placing more innocent drivers at risk.
