Aurora, CO (October 1, 2025) – A man died on Wednesday morning after a driver struck him and fled the scene on Wednesday morning, October 1, in Aurora. The crash happened just after 6:00 a.m. on East Hampden Avenue near South Picadilly Road.

Investigators say the man was walking east in the traffic lane while pushing a shopping cart when a vehicle traveling in the same direction hit him with devastating force.

The impact threw the man to the pavement, leaving him critically injured. The driver sped away, continuing east toward Gun Club Road, and did not stop to help.

First responders arrived within minutes and found the man severely hurt in the roadway. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, he died from his injuries.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name after notifying his family. Aurora Police spent hours at the scene collecting evidence and searching for the hit-and-run driver. The investigation remains active as officers work to identify the vehicle and driver responsible.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim during this heartbreaking time.

Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accidents in Colorado

Colorado has seen a troubling increase in deadly pedestrian crashes in recent years. Busy corridors like East Hampden Avenue carry fast-moving traffic and offer few safe places to cross, putting people on foot at serious risk.

Hit-and-run collisions leave victims without immediate help, which can turn survivable injuries into fatal ones. When a driver flees, critical minutes are lost before first responders arrive. Families are left grieving while also facing uncertainty about whether the responsible driver will be caught.

Common factors behind deadly pedestrian crashes include:

  • Distracted Driving: Phones, navigation systems, and other distractions take eyes off the road.
  • Speeding: Higher speeds make it harder to stop and cause more severe injuries.
  • Impairment: Alcohol and drugs slow reaction time and cloud judgment.
  • Low Visibility: Early morning hours and poor lighting make it harder for drivers to see people on foot.

After a fatal pedestrian crash, families often face overwhelming costs: emergency care, funeral expenses, and the sudden loss of financial support. A wrongful death claim can help families seek justice and financial stability.

A brave wrongful death lawyer can investigate hit-and-run crashes by gathering surveillance footage, eyewitness statements, and vehicle evidence. They can also deal directly with insurance companies and fight for compensation that covers medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages, and the emotional toll of the loss.
