Colorado Traffic Accidents

In a city as active and fast-paced as Denver, motorcycles and stand-up scooters have become increasingly popular ways to get around. But with that popularity comes risk. Each year, hundreds of riders are injured in crashes on Denver’s roadways—many suffering life-altering injuries in accidents that could have been prevented.

Busy corridors like Colfax Avenue, Speer Boulevard, and Broadway are especially hazardous for motorcyclists and scooter users, who face unique vulnerabilities on the road. Unlike occupants of passenger vehicles, riders have little protection in a collision. Even a low-speed crash can lead to broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, or worse.

Statewide, Colorado sees more than 100,000 vehicle crashes annually—and motorcycle and scooter riders are often among the most seriously injured. In one recent year alone, over 3,800 people across the state sustained serious injuries in traffic collisions, with urban centers like Denver accounting for a large portion of those numbers.

In many cases, these accidents are the result of driver negligence. Whether it’s a motorist failing to check a blind spot, running a red light, or simply not yielding the right-of-way, inattentive or reckless driving poses a grave threat to those on two wheels. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 90% of crashes are caused by human error.

Denver’s mix of dense traffic, unpredictable weather, and a rise in high-speed police chases and stolen vehicle incidents only adds to the dangers. For riders, even a routine trip can quickly turn tragic.
