Denver, CO — Major Car Crash on I-25 near Speer Blvd

Denver, CO (April 28, 2025) – Shortly before 5:00 a.m., on April 28, a major traffic accident took place in Denver that ended in injuries and delays. Police and EMS were dispatched to the scene on Interstate 25 between Speer Boulevard and 20th Street. At least two vehicles collided in the area under circumstances that remain unclear at this time.

Emergency crews worked to help those with injuries at the scene and transported seriously injured victims to local hospitals to receive further care. The interstate was closed while responders worked at the scene, and police urged local motorists to find alternate routes. At this time, the reason the accident occurred is under local law enforcement investigation.

Our thoughts are with those involved. We hope for their swift and total recovery.

Colorado Car Accidents

Colorado’s highways and city streets—especially in high-traffic areas like Denver—continue to see a disturbing rise in serious and fatal car accidents. In a recent year, the state reported over 600 traffic fatalities, alongside thousands of serious injuries. From stolen vehicle pursuits to high-speed collisions, many of these crashes are both preventable and devastating.

At Smith & Weidinger, our legal team has seen firsthand how reckless behavior on the road can shatter lives. Some of the most troubling crash trends in the Denver metro area include:

  • Stolen Vehicles and Reckless Operation

Crashes involving stolen cars are becoming more common—and more dangerous. Suspects often flee law enforcement at high speeds, ignore traffic signals, and put innocent drivers, pedestrians, and passengers in harm’s way.

  • Speed-Related Accidents

Speeding dramatically increases the risk and severity of traffic collisions. A moment of poor judgment at 70+ mph can result in life-threatening injuries or fatalities, especially during peak traffic hours or in busy intersections across Denver.

  • Vehicle Entrapment and Emergency Response

In major crashes, victims are sometimes trapped inside their vehicles, requiring fire department rescue operations using hydraulic tools. These rescues delay emergency medical care, often worsening the victim’s outcome and increasing the overall danger at the crash site.

  • Severe Injuries and Long-Term Recovery

High-speed or high-impact collisions can result in traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), spinal damage, internal bleeding, broken bones, and more. Victims often face extended hospital stays, surgeries, physical therapy, and months or years of recovery.

If you or a loved one was injured in a Denver car accident—especially one involving a stolen vehicle, high-speed crash, or serious injuries—you don’t have to navigate the aftermath alone.
