Lakewood, CO - Injuries Caused by Accident on CO-470 near US 285

Lakewood, CO (July 10, 2025) – Westbound lanes of Colorado 470 have reopened following a multi-vehicle collision that resulted in injuries and temporarily shut down the highway, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred near the interchange with U.S. 285, prompting authorities to close the westbound lanes around 2:00 p.m. Emergency responders arrived quickly to assist those injured in the crash and transport them to nearby medical facilities. The number and severity of injuries have not yet been confirmed.

Colorado Department of Transportation officials reported that the roadway was cleared and reopened to traffic around 2:40 p.m. following a rapid response and cleanup effort.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Drivers in the area were urged to exercise caution due to lingering congestion from the earlier closure.

Colorado Car Crashes

Car accidents are an unfortunate reality on Denver’s busy streets and highways, affecting thousands of people every year. With its growing population and high-traffic areas, Denver ranks among Colorado’s leading cities for motor vehicle crashes. Each year, the state sees over 100,000 reported collisions, and a significant portion of them happen right here in the Mile High City.

Injuries from these accidents can be life-changing. Victims often face more than just physical pain—they’re left dealing with rising medical costs, lost income, vehicle damage, and the emotional strain that follows a traumatic event. Recovery can be long and difficult, especially when you’re left to navigate the aftermath alone.

Most injury crashes in Denver stem from driver negligence. Whether it’s a distracted driver glancing at their phone, someone speeding through a yellow light, or an impaired driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs, human error is the leading factor in serious collisions. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 93% of all crashes nationwide are preventable and linked to driver behavior.

Denver’s unique urban layout and weather patterns further increase the risk. Sudden snowstorms, icy roads, and high-speed traffic on I-25, I-70, and other major arteries contribute to frequent accidents, especially during rush hour or inclement weather. Law enforcement has also noted a rise in crashes involving reckless driving and stolen vehicles, adding another layer of danger for innocent commuters.
