Westminster, CO — Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Perry St near 92nd Ave

Westminster, CO (May 19, 2025) – A fatal motorcycle crash occurred Saturday night, May 17, in Westminster, with alcohol suspected to be a contributing factor, according to police reports.

Officers were called to the scene near Perry Street and West 92nd Avenue, located about a mile east of the Denver-Boulder Turnpike, around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, as detailed in a statement from the Westminster Police Department.

The collision involved a 77-year-old motorcyclist and a 79-year-old driver, both reportedly heading home when their vehicles collided. Tragically, the motorcyclist died at the scene. The Adams County Coroner’s Office will officially identify the victim.

Authorities noted that the two individuals were acquainted and had attended the same event earlier that evening.

While the investigation is ongoing, it still hasn’t been confirmed if alcohol has played a role in the crash. Police in Westminster continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Colorado Motorcycle Accidents

Colorado continues to experience a troubling number of fatal motorcycle accidents each year, particularly in busy urban areas like Denver. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, while motorcyclists make up less than 3% of all traffic crashes, they account for over 20% of the state’s traffic-related deaths.

Recognizing the dangers motorcyclists face underscores the critical need for awareness and safety measures. Here are some key factors involved in fatal motorcycle crashes:

Vulnerability Without Protection: Unlike occupants of passenger vehicles, motorcyclists lack the protection of an external frame, making them extremely susceptible to fatal injuries even when wearing safety gear.

Visibility Challenges: Due to their smaller size, motorcycles often go unnoticed by other drivers, especially in blind spots. Many deadly crashes happen when a driver fails to see a motorcyclist while changing lanes or making turns.

Road Hazards Pose Greater Threats: Conditions such as potholes, debris, wet or uneven roads can cause motorcyclists to lose control more easily, increasing the risk of fatal crashes.

Severe and Life-Threatening Injuries: Fatal accidents often involve traumatic brain injuries, severe road rash, spinal cord damage, and multiple fractures, with devastating consequences for victims and their families.

Driver Negligence and Distraction: Many fatal motorcycle accidents are linked to negligent behaviors like failure to yield, tailgating, or distracted driving, all of which can prove deadly for riders.
